Rain-soaked Devizes Lion Club’s walk raises funds
11:00am Sunday 27th October 2013 in News
On a grey Sunday morning and in the face of a dire weather forecast, 150 people embarked on Devizes Lion Club’s annual sponsored walk.
Geoff Taylor, president of the Devizes Lions Club, and town mayor Pete Smith sent them off on the walk from Devizes Wharf onto Roundway Down and back.
By the time the walkers, who were of all ages, reached Roundway Down they were in drizzle, and it was not long before it changed to steady rain.
The walk provides an opportunity for people to raise funds for their own preferred causes, including this year some schools, Scout and Guiding groups and charities such as Dorothy House. Organiser Lion Tom Fussell estimated that the walkers will have raised more than £7,500. The recipient organisations will receive their cheques from the mayor at a presentation evening on November 19.
