Taking stand on fracking
5:00pm Thursday 17th October 2013 in News
An anti-fracking musical tour will be making its way through the streets of Pewsey on Friday as part of the Global Frackdown international weekend of action.
The event was organised by Pewsey Environmental Action Team (PEAT) and starts at 4pm outside the Bouverie Hall.
There will also be a discussion at Pewsey Fire Station, hosted by PEAT, on the implications of fracking for people in Wiltshire from 7pm.
PEAT chairman Iona Hassan said: “Fracking is being heavily promoted by the Government as the answer to Britain’s looming energy black hole but fracking is highly controversial.
“Local opposition has already been fierce. Fracking also prolongs Britain’s dependence on fossil fuels, and exacerbates climate change.
“Though CO2 emissions are reduced, methane emissions are high and the climate impact of fracking is thought to be just as bad as conventional gas extraction.”
