Blitz on litter by Potterne youngsters
3:00pm Thursday 17th October 2013 in News
Young people in Potterne last week felt compelled to act following anti-social behaviour by older teenagers.
Local young residents, supported by the parish youth worker Steve Dewar and members of the Potterne Youth Club committee, set about tidying up the Ryeleaze playing field after it was plagued by litter.
Mr Dewar said: “The children and young people were enthusiastic to just meet up one afternoon and get on and do something about it.
“They had had enough of others ruining this space for them.
“They spent several hours, working hard and having a laugh getting the job done.
“We wanted to challenge this kind of anti-social behaviour and led by example.
“Bins are available on the recreation area but, sadly, some members of the community choose not to use them or just take their rubbish home.”
The youth club, with support from Aster Housing and the parish council, is keen for the community space to be used and has seen events from Big Lunch barbecues, football and other sports activities and church fêtes taking place in the last year.
