Eight arrests at Marlborough Mop Fair as fights spoil event
12:47pm Monday 14th October 2013 in News
Police say Marlborough's second Mop Fair of the year on Saturday was marred by fighting and eight arrests were made.
Now Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident on Saturday between 10.30pm and 11.10pm in Marlborough High Street.
As a result, eight males, aged 15 to 19, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.
All have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Inspector Mark Thompson said: “The Marlborough Mop fair was robustly policed and the majority of people attending enjoyed themselves and behaved well.
"There were, however, a small number present who were intent on spoiling the night for others and displayed some appalling behaviour.
"As a result of the number of officers at the event, those responsible for this behaviour were swiftly arrested and the violence stopped.
“Incidents of this nature are rare for Marlborough and a police investigation is now well underway with further arrests likely.
“I would urge anyone with information to come forward immediately."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
