Sherston pupils jump high for our hearts
3:00pm Thursday 3rd October 2013 in News
Youngsters at a primary school near Malmesbury jumped for joy to raise money for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
Nearly 200 children at Sherston Primary School took to the sports hall in stages throughout the day for a sponsored skipathon.
After two weeks of practising skipping skills, such as twister jumpers, toe taps and jumping jax, the pupils performed a whole day of skipping as part of the BHF’s fundraising project to promote exercise.
Susan Wild, the school’s PE subject leader, said: “Skipping is just really good fun and it’s not just for girls.
“We all have a heart and activities like this are to remind the children that we need to keep active – use it or lose it. Skipping also helps children whose co-ordination isn’t quite as developed as it should be.”
The school raised money through sponsorship, 20 per cent going to school funds, while the BHF provided equipment, including skipping ropes.
