Coffee morning eyes £100k goal
9:00am Thursday 26th September 2013 in News
MACMILLAN Cancer Supp-ort is asking the public to join its World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and raise money to help people with cancer.
The annual event takes place tomorrow and the charity hopes Wiltshire residents can raise more than £100,000.
Last year a record £15 million was collected in the UK.
The event started in 1990 when a fundraising committee decided to hold a coffee morning and donated the proceeds to Macmillan.
The first national morning took place in 1991 and, since then, it has raised more than £75 million for the charity.
All the money raised will be used to fund the charity’s services, from specialist nurses and doctors to grants and advice for people who have money problems because of their illness.
Sarah Elliott, Macmillan’s fundraising manager in Swindon and Wiltshire, said: “We want to make sure no-one has to face cancer alone, but we can’t do it without the amazing people who fundraise for us, so we are extremely grateful to everyone who holds a coffee morn then“So far we have over 1,400 coffee mornings being held in Wiltshire and from these we are hoping to raise over £100,000.
“It is a fun event that is easy to take part in, especially as you can tailor it to suit yourself. All that matters is that you invite your friends, family or workmates to get together to raise some money to help Macmillan be there for people affected by cancer in your area.”
