Drivers in Marlborough can get a gleaming finish to their cars and support two very good causes when a charity car wash is held on Saturday September 28.

The event – part of a national initiative to support the Fire Fighters Charity - is being organised by the town’s firefighters and will be held at the fire station in The Parade between 10am and 2pm.

The Fire Fighters Charity provides help to serving and retired personnel, their widows/widowers and young dependants through the provision of sheltered accommodation, recuperative facilities, rehabilitation and therapy, as well as giving financial support to those who need it.

The charity works with some 11,000 beneficiaries every year at a cost of £9 million per annum, and these services are financed almost exclusively by fundraising.

The event will also support the Kennet Community Transport Fund, whose volunteers enable elderly and disabled people to travel into Marlborough to visit the shops and use the amenities before being taken home again. Donations from Saturday’s event will go towards maintaining the minibus and covering fuel costs.

As well as washing cars in return for donations, the Marlborough crew will be able to advise on home fire safety and provide information to anyone interested in joining Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service as an ‘on-call’ firefighter.
