History of conflict in county revealed
1:44pm Thursday 19th September 2013 in News
Wiltshire's long and varied military history can be explored at a free event next Saturday.
A series of family-friendly activities will be on offer at the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, focusing on the way conflict has affected people in the county.
Visitors will be able to walk through a First World War trench to find out about life as a Tommy, and discover how an Anglo-Saxon warrior defended England from Viking invaders.
Experts from Chippenham Museum and the Wiltshire Infantry Regiment Museum will also be speaking about life in Wiltshire during the First World War and about the Wiltshire Regiment during the Boer War.
Visitors are also invited to take a peek behind the scenes and explore parts of the centre which aren’t normally open, and watch conservators at work and see rare letters from Elizabeth I and Oliver Cromwell.
