Romance was in the air at the Wilton Windmill open day with a visitor from Bournemouth, Steve Parsons, proposing to his girlfriend Abi Jeans at the event.
The windmill held a picnic competition, including best rug and most patriotic picnic, and free guided tours on Saturday as part of the Heritage Open Days.
Wilton Windmill secretary Susie Brew said: “There was a gentleman who had been to the open day last year and like it so much that he thought it would be a good place to propose to his girlfriend and luckily she said yes. I think that’s a first for the windmill. It was a lovely day, we had Morris dancers and Punch and Judy and the weather wasn’t too bad.
“We had the usual queues for the free tours of the windmill. The event was really well supported by local businesses and we’d like to thank Bill Clemence at the Swan Inn for all his support.”
