Hilmarton teen holds concert to help school
3:00pm Sunday 22nd September 2013 in News
Teenager Lily Packer is organising a concert at her school to raise money for a borehole outside a primary school in Uganda.
The Grace Primary School in Butale, which has been running for six years, is supported by the Butale project in Calne, a registered charity aiming to help it become self-sufficient.
Earlier this year, volunteers flew out to help build three new classrooms.
Lily, 17, from Hilmarton, will put together a full musical programme for the concert at the John Bentley School on September 27, starting at 7pm.
She said: “Obviously there’s been a lot happening with the Butale School at the moment and it’s quite well-known around here.
“They have just built the new classrooms so that’s all done, but every little helps.”
Lily, who is a musician herself, is looking for companies to donate raffle prizes.
She said: “I’m a bit nervous about the concert because I’m playing as well as organising it. I’m going to play a piano piece by Einadui and a couple of flute duets.
“I’ve organised a concert before so I know what I’m doing and everyone is behind me.”
Tickets for the concert can be bought on the night and are £5 for adults and £3 for children.
