Malmesbury on marks for weekend's half marathon
7:00pm Thursday 19th September 2013 in News
Hundreds of runners will take to the streets of Marlmesbury on Sunday for the annual half marathon, with hundreds more expected to turn out in support.
The 13.1-mile route takes in Norton, Easton Grey, Shipdon Moyne and Brokenborough.
Event director James Higgs hopes the weather will be kind to them after the downpours of 2012.
“We don’t want a repeat of the weather last year, that’s for sure,” he said.
“We are hoping for a good atmosphere again and we would like people to come out and watch.
“Everything is in place; we are good to go. We do need a few more marshals though.”
Those wishing to volunteer should email Mr Higgs on email@example.com Places are still available for runners and it is possible to sign up on the day.
Mr Higgs said the number of entrants was down by about 80, probably because of the Chippenham half marathon and the Bath Half Marathon, both of which were held at the weekend.
Motorists are warned to expect delays between 10.30am and 2pm while certain roads are closed for the event. Affected roads will include High Street, Gloucester Street, Abbey Row, Triangle, and Bristol Street.
Among those running this year will be Caroline Hogg, fresh from completing the Chippenham half marathon, who is taking part in aid of Riding for the Disabled. To sponsor her, visit www.just giving.com/Caroline-Hogg1
