Changes to boost safety at Calne waste recycling site
10:00am Friday 20th September 2013 in News
HILLS Waste has applied to remove a planning condition on its factory on the Porte Marsh Industrial Estate.
The firm operates a recyclables management facility that sorts loose card and plastic waste.
Its activities include loading recycled materials onto lorries for shipment to companies able to re-use them in production lines.
Hills Waste has applied to remove a planning condition that says vehicle loading should take place inside the factory building.
Instead, loading would take place outside on the forecourt where there is more space.
A statement from the company said existing practices posed a potential threat to the safety of staff, saying: “These activities require back and forth movements of heavy plant.”
