Pewsey wine race won in record time
Where’s Wally, cave women and surgeons were among the array of competitors in fancy dress who turned out to Pewsey Carnival’s four-legged race last night.
The four legged race, previously called the wine race, is the first of the village carnival’s three big events – with the wheelbarrow race and the procession taking place next week.
A total of 55 teams took part in the race which sees teams of three, tied together at the ankle, dash around the village.
On route the teams stopped at the Football Club, The Cooper's Arms, The Moonrakers, Daisy's Kitchen, Thomsons and The Royal Oak where one a member of each team had to drink a glass of wine or, alternatively, a soft drink.
Organiser Dave Major said: “Numbers are slightly down on last year but everyone seems to have had a good time.”
This year the race was won in record time of 9.32 minutes by the Pre Hysterics – Kinga Tarnai, Shelley Miles and Elspeth Barley.
The fastest men’s team were The Cripps, made up of Howard Hooper, Ryan McQuick and Joe Wood, with a time of 9.50 minutes.
Best fancy dress went to Wendy Spencer, Annette Powell and Janice Grafton who had fashioned roller coaster costumes and even had a dance routine to bring their outfits to life.
