Calne Veterans take on youth on pitch
4:30pm Thursday 12th September 2013 in News
A game of two halves added up to a great result for Dorothy House Hospice when more than £550 was raised at a charity football match and auction.
Held at Calne Town FC, the game was organised by Bremhill View Social Club manager Martin Belcher, who had previously organised similar games for other local charities. He decided to raise funds for Dorothy House after his father-in-law was helped by their care services.
“The two teams were made up from some youngsters who play Sunday league football for us and the other side was a ‘veteran’ team, some of whom were over 60. We did pretty well to held them in the first 45 minutes but then the knees, backs and hips of the veterans started to go and the final score was in double figures.” said Martin.
Dorothy House Hospice fundraising team were able to support Mr Belcher with banners and balloons and were thrilled that so much money was raised by the event.
