Devizes concert to raise funds for the needy
6:00pm Sunday 15th September 2013 in News
THE congregation of St James’ Church, Devizes, is continuing its fund-raising efforts for a community in South Sudan with a concert.
The church has links with the diocese of Kajo-Keji and is aiming to raise £25,000 to buy a truck and other equipment to provide a wide range of transport services in the area, from being an ambulance to carrying goods to market and even being a mobile church.
Fundraising so far has included a sponsored cycle ride and sky dive, which together raised £4,000. The next event is a concert by singer-songwriter Gareth Davies-Jones, who will be performing at St James’ Church on September 28 at 7.30pm.
Church member Clare Kent said: “Gareth’s music is both evocative and descriptive, with beautiful melodies and sometimes challenging lyrics. Song stories can range from Arctic convoys to traditional folk songs.”
Tickets are £10 in advance from Devizes Books or £12 on the door.
The cost includes a free drink during the interval.
