Beer flows in spite of Wadworth lorry strike
1:00pm Thursday 12th September 2013 in News
Wadworth Brewery believe only a handful of pubs were affected by a strike by delivery drivers.
The 24 hour strike was held from 10am yesterday by members of the Unite union in protest at a restructuring exercise by their employer, Kuehne & Nagel Drinks Logistics (KNDL) at its Thatcham headquarters.
Devizes-based Wadworth outsourced its distribution and most of its warehousing operation to KNDL at Thatcham last year. Only four out of 31 Wadworth employees who were affected transferred to KNDL.
Paul Sullivan, sales and marketing director at Wadworth, said Unite had given seven days notice of the strike and as a result Wadworth had managed to move deliveries of beer and other drinks forward to Monday or Tuesday.
Of the 120 pubs that KNDL deliver to on behalf of Wadworth daily he thought four pubs in the south of England would have to wait until Thursday or Friday for supplies.
