Treats in store for everyone at Calne festival of food
3:00pm Thursday 5th September 2013 in News
Calne’s third festival of food and drink will offer plenty to get visitors’ taste buds tingling this weekend, from stalls packed with gastronomic goodies to cookery demonstrations.
Organisers have arranged a full day of activities from 10am to 4pm for the festival on Saturday, as well as street stalls selling food around the town centre.
Cookery demonstrations will start at 11am with a demonstration from Wellington Barn, near Calstone.
Its chef Dan Wyatt plans to cook tortellini filled with chicken and bacon, accompanied by a Caesar dressing, as well as spiced mini iced buns.
He said: “Everyone loves chicken Caesar salad and we’re doing a take on that by putting it in tortellini.
“I think it’s really important to be involved with the local community.
“It’s going to be really good. We’re going to have some food made up already to hand around, and we’re going to have recipe cards so people can do it at home.”
Budding cooks can enter their cakes, quiches, jams, breads, cupcakes and scones into a cookery competition and an awards presentation will be held in the town hall at 3pm.
A beer and cider festival, courtesy of the North West Wiltshire branch of CAMRA, will also be held in the town hall all day, with brews provided by local businesses including Braydon Ales, Moles Brewery and Wadworth.
This year the food festival will run alongside a new event, Calne’s Big Green Bike and Hike, organised by the Calne Area Transport Group, which encourages healthy living, cycling and walking.
And stunt artists from MAD, the world’s first professional mountain bike display team, have promised to entertain people at The Pippin car park with wheelies, jumps and ramps.
