Caen Hill lock flight may reopen this weekend
The Canal and River Trust is hoping to re-open the Caen Hill flight of locks on the Kennet and Avon Canal this weekend following work to repair a lock gate this morning.
The stretch between locks 22 and 44 have been closed since Saturday as a result of a narrowboat striking a lock gate.
The gate was lifted off its anchor pin or hinge by a crane this morning and was inspected by engineers. The damage was confined to some of the gate’s pins or bolts and they were replaced.
The gate is back in place and engineers will inspect it tomorrow to check if the repairs have set and, if so, the intention is to reopen the canal this weekend.
A spokesman for the Trust said: “We are pleased with how the work went this morning.
"We thank people for their patience as we undertake the repairs. We understand the closure of the canal is frustrating. We hope to get the canal re-open soon.”
