Five years of support celebrated
12:00pm Saturday 24th August 2013 in News
Alzheimer's Support’s Sidmouth Club in Devizes celebrated its fifth anniversary in style last week with a garden party for members, their families and other supporters.
More than 65 people attended the event at the dementia day club, which has just been shortlisted for a Dignity in Care award.
The club in Sidmouth Street is run by independent Wiltshire charity Alzheimer’s Support and is open three days a week. It offers a wide range of activities and helps members retain their skills and the feeling that they are still part of their community.
Club manager Grant Newton said: “We are very proud of what we do here. We are very different from a typical day club and people can really be themselves here. We enjoy each other’s company and the staff ensure any difficulties people have are not difficulties for us.
“We have great links with the Devizes community and are very grateful for all the support we receive.”
The party had live music from Chris Stone and a buffet lunch laid on by the club’s own volunteer chef Gavin Moss. Members of the Wharf Theatre provided more entertainment.
The club will find out on September 27 whether it has won the Dignity in Care category in the Wiltshire Social Care awards.
The club is seeking more male volunteers to join the team. For more information, call (01380) 739055 or go to www.alzheimerswiltshire.org.uk
