8:44am Wednesday 21st August 2013 in News
Double Olympic gold medallist James Cracknell will be the guest speaker at Wiltshire Council’s Olympic Legacy Business Dinner on October 25 at County Hall in Trowbridge.
Wiltshire Council leader Jane Scott revealed the former rower's involvement at the launch of Olympic Legacy Business Dinner last week, with the dinner providing businesses with the opportunity to sponsor athletes in Wiltshire.
As well as the appearance of the British rowing champion, who has also won six World Championship titles, the business dinner will be hosted by former Bath and England rugby captain Phil de Glanville.
Cllr Scott said: “We’ve been working hard to build on the success of last year’s celebratory events and to create a legacy for Wiltshire.
“The Olympic Legacy Business Dinner will help Wiltshire-based sports people to achieve their dream of representing the county on the biggest sporting stages.
“The event will also support participating businesses to market their own services using our exclusive branding pack.”
“We are really pleased that James has been able to join us.”
Sponsorship raised from the evening will be added to the Funding Future Olympians and Paralympians Fund for 2014, allowing more local sports stars to apply for grants.
Hilperton pole vaulter Hannah Grubb said: “This is the first year I’ve had the future Olympians funding and it’s helped me a lot, especially with paying for competitions and equipment.”
