Erlestoke and Coulston Cricket Club last buys ground
2:00pm Saturday 17th August 2013 in News
There was ample cause to celebrate at Erlestoke and Coulston Cricket Club last weekend as they marked the purchase of the ground where they have been playing for the last 23 years.
It took three years of negotiations with the Ministry of Defence to buy the Walled Garden off Erlestoke High Street but the club has a permanent home at last.
Club chairman Jasper Dorgan said: “It is wonderful news for the club and the wider community. It means that village cricket will continue to be played in Erlestoke for many generations to come and now we own our ground we can begin to improve its facilities and continue to strengthen the club. A lot of people have worked hard to achieve this but a special thank you must be made to our sponsors.”
The club has received financial and other support from Sport England, the Community Landfill Trust and Devizes Area Board.
After an official launch on Sunday, there was a junior cricket tournament and those attending enjoyed tea and cakes.
