Kevin Gummer from Devizes has appealed for help in tracing two sets of bells owned by his grandfather and left to him in his will.
The resident of Southbroom Road, Devizes, is looking for information about the whereabouts of a set of hand bells and a small set of tubular bells that were owned by Henry Albert Gummer.
Kevin Gummer said: “Henry served in the Wiltshire police force and was stationed in various Wiltshire villages. When he was serving in Devizes he lived at 35 Longcroft Road, before moving to 10 Southbroom Place, (now 107 Southbroom Road), when he retired.
“After retiring from the police force he worked as a groundsman at Devizes School on the Green.
“Henry rang bells at many churches around Wiltshire and other counties and he died in 1966.
“At some time after his death – probably in the late ‘60s or early ‘70s – someone visited his widow Hilda at Southbroom Place and asked to borrow Henry’s set of hand bells and the tubular bell set. They have never been seen since.
“In 1976 Hilda moved from Southbroom Place and In August that year my mother, father and myself moved into the house. Hilda died in 1986.”
