Greathouse care home in Kington Langley is appealing for a new vehicle to replace its ageing Transit.

Staff at the home, which provides services for adults with physical and learning disabilities, take residents out on trips but their 10-year-old van is deteriorating.

Greathouse is run by Leonard Cheshire Disability, one of the UK’s largest voluntary sector providers of services for disabled people.

Carer Julia Tuck said: “On our main vehicle the back door is broken so you have to climb over the back seat to open it. If something were to happen half way down the motorway, we’d be stuck.”

The van fits three people with their wheelchairs.

Chris Button, 36, who comes from Bristol for respite, said: “It would be good to have another vehicle because sometimes it’s booked out or being repaired.

“We don’t want to be stuck indoors. It would be nice for everyone to get a group together and get out.”

Staff would also like someone to lend them UV lights, dry ice and foam on Saturday.

Mrs Tuck said: “We want to have a rave. We are not an old people’s home and about half of the 25 residents are aged below 35.”

They are also looking for anyone who may be able to offer their time as a volunteer driver, or donate talking computers, kitchen repairs, a CD player or Sky TV.

Greathouse’s annual summer fete, with crafts and live music, is open to everyone and will this year welcome Chippenham Scooter Club on Saturday, September 29, from 11am to 5pm.

Anyone with a talent is asked to put on a show. Stallholders can join for £10, or for free if a charity.
