Share cars for easier travel

MUM Suzanne Witheford has launched an initiative to encourage people to car share after becoming fed up with the amount of single-person traffic from Burbage.
The 44-year-old has set up Burbage Lifts on Twitter and is in the process of setting up a Facebook page so people can post about lifts that are available or needed.
She said: “I live in Burbage and my son goes to school in Marlborough. We run a business in Burbage so there’s a lot of running about.
“You see so many cars at the bypass going to Marlborough and it just seems such a waste.”
The scheme is not just for the benefit of drivers – Mrs Witheford hopes that bus users will make the most of the opportunity too.
She said: “For some reason the early bus at 7.25am doesn’t always come and there is one lady who has been left waiting until 8am for the next bus. If someone could offer her a lift, even if she had to get the bus back from Marlborough, that would be great.
“It’s not just for people going into Marlborough and the surrounding villages. I think it’s a nice thing to do.”
So far the idea has been well-received in the village and Mrs Witheford is working on spreading the word about the service.
She said: “The response from people has been really positive. The main problem is the restrictive use of Twitter. Not everybody uses it and some people have suggested a Facebook page, which is what I’m looking at now.
“I know a lot of businesses have car-share schemes but this is for people who need a lift on an ad hoc basis.”
