US Open golf champion Justin Rose took time out from his preparations for this month’s Open Championship to celebrate his daughter’s christening in Castle Combe.

Mr Rose, 32, who lives in Hampshire, became the first Englishman to win the US Open for 43 years last month and is also hoping to do well at the Open Championship in Muirfield.

He relaxed with friends and family for the Christening of his second child, 18-month-old Lottie, last Saturday at The Manor House Hotel and Golf Club.

The world number three married his long-time girlfriend Kate Phillips, a former international gymnast, at the five-star hotel in December 2006.

On the morning of his wedding he played nine holes of golf on its 18-hole championship course, which was designed by BBC commentator Peter Alliss and his design partner Clive Clarke in 1992.

To mark his return, the hotel presented Mr Rose with honorary life membership of the club. This has only been awarded to one other person, the 2003 England World Cup rugby union winner Mike Tindall.

Dillon Ariyaratne, conference and banqueting manager at the hotel, said: “It was great to meet Justin and his family so soon after his US Open win.

“It was a privilege to host another family occasion for him. “Everybody had a lovely day and he even gave me the chance to hold the US Open trophy.”

The Manor House is owned by the Exclusive Golf group.

Steve Slinger, Exclusive Golf’s manager, said: “We were delighted to welcome Justin back and help him and his family celebrate such a special day.

“Watching him win the US Open was very special and no-one deserved to win a major more than him. He is a fantastic ambassador for the game and giving him honorary life membership of The Manor House was a fitting way to mark his great achievement and celebrate such a special occasion.”
