MORE than 6,000 tickets have been sold for the annual Calne duck race, which is expected to raise thousands for pounds for charity this Saturday.

The race starts at the bridge at the Co-op car park at 11am. Local groups and charities will also be setting up stalls in the town hall and on the green area near The Wharf from 10am.

Last Sunday volunteers from the Calne Lions, Castlefields Canal and River Park Association, and the Calne Bowl Project prepared for the event by cleaning the river bank.

Amanda Venton, vice president for the Calne Lions, said afterwards: “We are raring to go. We’re just hoping that the weather is good so that all the stalls can make some money.”
