Devizes Guide Connie Fiducia-Brookes received her prestigious Baden-Powell award at the same time she won through to the regional final of a singing contest.

Connie, 13, of New Park Street, Devizes, received her award from joint county commissioners Shirley Eve and Diane Bouault at the Wiltshire South final of Perform and Shine, a singing competition run by South West Region Guiding. Connie won the 13-16 age group and will go on to represent the region at the final.

Another Devizes winner was Allie Winchcombe, 23, who was top in the higher age category.

To qualify for the Baden Powell award, Connie completed many badges and took part in ten challenges. She helped run themed evenings at Guides, made an ICT resource, learned about Fairtrade, created a poster of herself and held a reflections session with her patrol.

Paula Postlethwaite, the leader of 2nd Devizes Guides, said: “Connie has always been an enthusiastic Guide and takes part in many of the activities not held at Guide meetings. She has been a loyal and keen Guide and her family has always been very supportive.”
