Admiral of the Fleet Sir Edward Ashmore, 93, who lives at at Brendoncare, Froxfield, near Marlborough, was presented with the Arctic Star by Commander Alec Parry, Royal Navy, for his service as First Lieutenant in HMS Middleton on convoy to Archangel, USSR, in 1942.

Lady Ashmore, Sir John and Lady Sykes, daughter and son-­‐in-­‐law, were present together with Mr and Mrs Denis Brandt, cousins, during the private ceremony.

Both families were in business in Russia until the 1917 revolution.

The Brandts traded from Archangel and Sir Edward’s mother, Tamara, grew up in St Petersburg.

Sir Edward proposed to Lady Ashmore by telegram while in Archangel on convoy duty in 1942.

They celebrated their platinum wedding on December 11, 2012.
