Road closed in Devizes for work on gas mains

One of the main roads in Devizes will be closed this weekend for essential gas main work to take place.

Long Street will be closed between the junctions of Bridewell Street and Hillworth Road while Wales & West Utilities undertake major mains connection works to a gas replacement scheme.

The gas work took place last year and involved temporary traffic lights in Southbroom Road and at the Southgate roundabout.

Talking on the part-closure of Long Street, a spokesman for Wales & West Utilities said: “The gas main is located in the middle of the road and we will need to close the road in order to access the main.

“The decision to carry out this vital work during a weekend was taken as it will have less impact on traffic flows.

“The road closure on Long Street marks the final phase for these works.”

Motorists will be unable to drive into Station Road from the Market Place, to allow buses to use Station Road for additional journeys.
