Pensioner in serious condition after Devizes crash

An 87-year-old Devizes man was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol last night after being knocked down on a pedestrian crossing in the town.

The incident occurred shortly after 8pm on the crossing near the junction of Belle Vue Road with The Nursery.

The pensioner was on the crossing when he was hit by a red Citroen Saxo driven by a 63-year-old local woman.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Frenchay by the Wiltshire Air Ambulance. He is described as being in a serious but stable condition.
