Learn more about future of Royal Wootton Bassett

A community event held in Royal Wootton Bassett provided the first chance for people to learn about and begin to contribute to the area’s Neighbourhood Plan.

Coun Mike Leighfield, mayor and chairman of the Neighbourhood Planning steering committee, welcomed around 25 residents to the open meeting.

Project manager Mark Goodman explained how the Neighbourhood Plan will develop in the coming months.

Neighbourhood Planning forms part of the government’s Localism Act and aims to present communities that opt to take part with a way to influence local planning policy and how their areas are developed, both by large developers and smaller planning applications.

Issues raised at the meeting included the importance of the town centre, roads and green space, and the potential placement of new housing as well as the type of issues that will need to be dealt with in the plan.

It is hoped that a wide representation of people will come forward to be represented on the Neighbourhood Planning steering group, including young people, those with links to business and members of local community groups.

For more information, or to take part, call the town council on (01793) 850222, email enquiries@royalwoottonbassett .gov.uk or leave a message on the Royal Wootton Bassett Facebook page. The results will be posted on www.rwbneighbourhood.co.uk
