Jack and Josie McMillan will celebrate their diamond anniversary with a surprise party surrounded by their family later today.

The couple, who were married at St Michael’s Church in Melksham in 1953, will be joined by their large family for the celebration.

They first met while working at the Mendip Motor and Engineering works in Atworth, but had also both attended Neston School at the same time, three years apart.

At the wedding, Josie was attended by her sisters Diana and Edna, while her brother David was usher.

They have six children, 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and have lived in Rudloe for 57 years.

Mrs McMillan said the couple make sure to have different hobbies, to complement their opposite personalities, but are both keen gardeners, and regular members of Rudloe social club.

When they were younger they also enjoyed riding around the Corsham area on their tandem, often being seen riding through the countryside together.
