The driver of a car involved in a collision injuring Devizes teenager Romany Wakefield has contacted police.

The collision happened in Southbroom Road on March 6 at about 8.15am while Romany, 14, was crossing the road on her way to Devizes School.

The car failed to stop and Romany suffered swelling and bruising to her right ankle.

Following a story in the Gazette & Herald last week a 25-year-old man from the Trowbridge area contacted Wiltshire Police to say he was the driver of the car involved.

He has not yet been formally interviewed and police are continuing to make enquiries about the incident before they take a statement from him.

They are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to call PC Paul Johnson on 101.
