Book of the past will aid West Lavington youth club’s future
6:00pm Thursday 14th March 2013 in News
The treasurer of West Lavington youth club has come up with a historic way of raising funds for it.
Lyn Dyson has been an enthusiastic amateur historian since arriving in West Lavington 12 years ago.
She has started to put together the results of her research and has produced a series of paperback books covering many aspects of Lavington history.
She said: “I always considered this would be a project for the community, and when my daughter Keira Michelle Telford, who is a writer, agreed to help me to get the books into print, I thought it would be a good way of raising money for the local youth club.”
All the books are being sold to raise funds for the club.
Mrs Dyson said: “It is really great to be able to raise funds for a good cause while doing something you love doing, and which is a bit of an obsession.
“I have been very lucky to gain the support of Ros Hooper, who inherited a wonderful archive of photographs from her mother.
“These were often exhibited within the village, but Ros has put them into three volumes of books, and they are included in this series.
“We have so far published volumes one and two; volume three will be out later this spring.”
She hopes to raise £2,000 for the youth club, founded by the late actor George Baker, by the end of March.
The books are on sale at Devizes Books or from Mrs Dyson on (01380) 813943.
