Paralympian visits John Bentley School

Swimmer Kate Grey spoke to John Bentley School pupils about her experience representing Great Britain at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics on Friday, March 1.

The swimmer, who lost her left hand in an accident at the age of two, visited the school as part of the Sky Sports Living for Sport Project.

The free initiative promotes sport by sending athlete mentors to work with and inspire students.

PE teacher Samantha Shuker said: “Kate was very open with the groups, she discussed how she injured her arm, the challenge of learning to swim and the fact that she didn’t begin to compete until the age of 16. Her honesty and passion for what she does was truly inspiring.”

The Healthy Living group also spent time with Kate in the Calne Leisure Centre swimming pool.
