New chicks hatch at Chippenham school
2:00pm Sunday 17th March 2013 in News
Eight spring chicks have hatched at St Paul’s Primary School in Chippenham.
The chicks, provided through education programme Living Eggs, will stay at the school for two weeks before going to small holders or free-range farms.
The first birth, which took place during the evening on February 26, was captured on time lapse camera and pupils watched the results during assembly.
On Thursday February 28 the last three chicks hatched during the morning, allowing the children to see them being born first hand.
Headteacher Sheridan Upton said: “Our main aim was to provide an exciting, real-life learning opportunity for the children.
“We don’t have the resources or equipment to keep the chicks ourselves this year, but maybe next year we will.”
