Britain's Got Talent singing sensation Susan Boyle is making her acting debut in Biddlestone this week, as she shoots scenes for her first feature film.

The Scottish singer will appear in The Christmas Candle, alongside former Doctor Who star Sylvester McCoy, which is being filmed on the village green.

The village has been transported back to Victorian times for the shoot, with a traditional candle maker’s shop front put up outside the village pub, and horse-drawn carts trundling down the street. Fake snow has also been used to recreate a traditional Victorian Christmas scene, with roasted chestnuts and holly wreaths adorning the streets.

The American crew behind the film have been filming since Saturday, and will continue shooting scenes in the village until Thursday.

Tom Anderson, whose parents’ house overlooks the film set, said: “They have been a very helpful crew, everyone has had a good experience with them.

“There’s been some disruption, with the road closed for filming, but we were all told well in advance, and they’re very considerate to the villagers’ needs.

“It’s really exciting for the village, everybody’s entered into the spirit.”

The exterior of the White Horse pub, which was recently taken over by new owners, is also being used in the filming.

Landlady Stella Beckenham said: “We only opened on Saturday, but they’ve already been in to visit to say thanks, and we had our photo taken with Sylvester McCoy.

“It’s about time something like this happened for Biddestone, it’s a beautiful village, and we’re really happy to be living here.

"They’ve done really well to make the village look like it would have done back then, I think I prefer it like this.”

The film is based on a novella by American preacher Max Lucardo, and is expected to be released for Christmas 2014.
