New head of class to make mark
11:00am Sunday 10th March 2013 in News
After working at a school with more than 300 children new head teacher Ashley Martin hopes to make his mark on village life in Heddington.
Mr Martin, who studied at Reading University, is taking up the top job at Heddington Church of England Primary School.
He lives in Oxford Road, Calne, with his wife Sarah and two children Joseph and Emily, aged four and two.
Previously he was deputy head at Aloeric Primary School in Melksham.
Mr Martin was commissioned at St Andrew’s Church on February 4 during a Christingle service attended by a representative from the diocese.
Now he has big plans for improvements to the outside of the school, including the restoration of its wildlife pond and a project to plant different bulbs around the school grounds.
Last Friday, children at the school took part in a bring a bulb day and Year Six pupil Maisie Mackinnon organised a cake sale for the Have a Heart Appeal, raising £45.
Mr Martin said: “The commissioning service was a big moment for me, my first headship.
“ It was a moment of extreme pride and big responsibility knowing that those children were being entrusted to me.”
