Teenage singer Amelia Broadway is living up to her name after getting through to the regional final of singing contest TeenStar.

The 13-year-old Hardenhuish pupil, whose ambition is to peform on the West End, smashed the auditions at Reading with Les Miserables number Bring Him Home and will go through to the next round at the Beck Theatre, in Hillingdon, London, on March 16.

Amelia, of Bristol Road, Chippenham, said: “I hadn’t done anything that big before. It’s what I want to do, I want to be in the West End.”

She started lessons two years ago with Nancy Sawyer. Her audition was an a capella behind closed doors but next time she will perform at a 600-seater venue. Mum Tracey Broadway said: “It is a huge step for Amelia. She wants to combine singing with acting in musical theatre. She doesn’t really get that nervous – I am probably more nervous than she is, “She probably gets it from her nan (her dad’s mum) in America.”

The grand final will be held at the O2 arena in London, where judges will include Radio 1 DJs Annie Nightingale and Ras Kwame, with the winner receiving £5,000 cash, development classes and recording studio time.

Anyone who would like to support Amelia at the Beck Theatre can buy tickets for £8 from Mrs Broadway by calling 07909 833539.
