Website will aim to link community
6:00pm Saturday 9th March 2013 in News
A new website filled with local information was launched at the Community Hub last week.
The site, which is part of a Wiltshire Council initiative to make it easier for people to talk to one another online, can be used to find out about local news, events, jobs and volunteering opportunities.
Several sites have already been set up across Wiltshire, including in Chippenham, Corsham and Devizes.
The sites allow people to post stories and start their own conversations.
Wiltshire councillor Christine Crisp, who chairs Calne Area Board, said: “There are quite a lot of parish and small groups who cannot afford a site of their own, but they can use this site to publicise at no cost.”
Jane Vaughan, Calne community area manager, has been working on the site.
Coun Crisp said: “Jane has been working very hard on it and the idea is to make it a little bit bigger so people can latch onto it and be part of it.
“It will be a week or two yet before we get all the stories we want on.”
There will also be the opportunity to get involved and act as a local volunteer community reporter. These volunteers will be trained and equipped to post stories, photos and videos.
