Veteran snooker player John Parrott and international rugby player Scott Quinnell are the guest speakers at Bishops Cannings Cricket Club’s sportsmen’s dinner at Dauntsey’s School on March 27.

Club chairman Ed Dav-ies said: “As usual 460 will attend and we do not need to advertise as it is always a sell out so if anyone wants to attend, ring me on (01380) 860305.”

The club has almost completed the building of its new pavilion at a cost of £65,000 with contributions from Viridor landfill levy, Wiltshire Council’s developer contributions and a grant from Devizes Area Board.

The club takes pride in its youth section which has already proved itself. Mr Davies said: “We are delighted that Tom Alsop, who is 17, represented England under-19s on the recent South Africa tour.”

The club celebrates its silver jubilee on September 15 with a charity match against Bunbury XI, a well known celebrity side. Money raised from the event will go to Devizes Opportunity Centre and the Bunbury charity.
