Thermal cameras show homes’ heat loss
6:00pm Sunday 10th March 2013 in News
Residents learned how to use the latest technology to make sure people are saving energy and keeping warm.
Some 15 people attended a thermal imaging training day at the Crown Centre in Devizes on the Saturday before last, including representatives of five community groups and Wiltshire Council and Dorset County Council. After an introduction to the key principles of thermal imaging, participants took cameras into Devizes Market Place.
Jackie Thomas, chairman of the Sustainable Devizes Network, said: “Thermal imaging is used to provide a picture of heat loss in buildings, which helps identify where energy saving improvements can be made.
“The photos are an eye-catching way of raising awareness of making homes more energy efficient. Three Wiltshire groups already own their own thermal imaging cameras, and the Wiltshire Council camera can also be loaned out to groups.”
