Three cavemen braved the cold weather to hand over donations to Avebury Rocks’ chosen charities.

The Avebury Rocks festival, which involves a 20-mile walk followed by an evening concert on the village sports ground, raised £20,000 last year.

Representatives of the festival have given a cheque for £6,000 to the children’s cancer and leukaemia charity CALM and £14,000 to Prospect Hospice.

David Uttley, who founded Avebury Rocks, said: “We haven’t got a date set for this year because Nick Harper is ringing around acts to find out when they are available.

“The previous year we raised £30,000 but it was a very nice day, whereas last year it was very wet and turned into a bit of a mud bath. We’re hoping this year the weather will be good and we’ll get back up to £30,000.”
