Poet leads workshop for pupils
11:00am Friday 8th March 2013 in News
English students at Hardenhuish School in Chippenham had a special guest teacher last week – poetry slam champion Ash Dickinson.
Writer Mr Dickinson has shared the bill with international poets as well as comedians like Frankie Boyle and Andy Parsons.
He led poetry workshops with all Year 8 pupils over two days at the school, looking at analysis and performance.
Head of English Matt Hall said: “The English Faculty at Hardenhuish believes in bringing literature to life beyond the page. We recognise that pupils make the best progress when they enjoy what they are studying.”
Ash Dickinson was runner up in the 2011 UK Poetry All Stars Slam and won the BBC Radio 4 Midlands Slam in 2009. Further afield, he has performed at international literary festivals in Canada, Australia, USA and New Zealand, and has also had a four-star rated one man show at The Edinburgh Fringe.
His debut collection, Slinky Espadrilles, was published by Burning Eye Books last year.
