Public reminder to have say on Wiltshire police and crime plan

Angus Macpherson Angus Macpherson

Angus Macpherson, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon, is reminding people to give their views on his draft Police and Crime Plan.

Members of the public can visit the Commissioner’s website – www.wiltshire-pcc.gov.uk – to read a draft version of the plan and have until Sunday, March 10 to give their feedback.

Mr Macpherson said: “Since publishing the draft Police and Crime Plan last month we have contacted a wide range of organisations to inform people that they can read the draft document and comment on it via my website.

“The consultation runs until Sunday so with less than a week to go I am encouraging people to read the draft plan and give their views, as it is very important to me to gain feedback from as many people in Wiltshire and Swindon as possible.”

Mr Macpherson, or representatives from his office, are also at a number of meetings this week to talk to residents about the draft plan, as follows:

  • Chippenham Area Board tonight at the Neeld Hall (6.30pm-7pm), during 30 minutes before the meeting starts
  • Salisbury City Community Area Partnership on Wednesday from 6pm at Sarum College
  • Malmesbury Area Board on Wednesdayat Crudwell Village Hall (6.30pm-7pm), during 30 minutes before the meeting starts
  • Warminster Area Board on Thursday at Warminster Civic Centre (6.30pm- 7pm), during 30 minutes before the meeting starts

The final version of the Police and Crime Plan will set the strategic direction of policing in Wiltshire and Swindon for the next four years. The plan focuses on working with communities and partners and is divided into six main sections:

  • Reduce crime and anti-social behaviour
  • Protect the most vulnerable in society
  • Put victims and witnesses first Reduce offending and re-offending
  • Drive up standards of customer service
  • Ensure unfailing and timely response to calls for assistance

So, what has actually changed after appointing this man at a huge expense to the taxpayer? I seem to remember that these aims were expressed before. When can we expect to see real value for money?

He has an interesting idea to put to the Chief Constable. To draft in Specials to assist with policing rural crime.
I wonder if he's EVER spoken to a special constable??
Just how many of these volunteers are going to give up their time to work out in the sticks?
I wonder - life in cow sheds or the friday night punch-ups - I wonder how many volunteers he'll get?

Does he not know that you can't trust a special like an old time copper?

What section of the plan does "sitting around in your car all day waiting for an untaxed car to go by" come under?

The section that refers to the sgt.'s requirement to ensure that govt. directives, objectives and targets are met - FAR more important than allowing the police to police.
