Spud lovers were spoilt for choice at Pewsey Vale Gardening Club’s third annual potato fair.

Gardeners poured through the doors of the Bouverie Hall on Sunday and were rewarded with the sight of about 60 varieties of spuds on sale.

The club organised the fair in conjunction with Pennard Plants, from Somerset.

Green-fingered enthusiasts came from as far as Reading to buy potatoes and other heritage vegetables, including shallots, garlic and onion sets.

Howard Reed, one of the club’s committee members, said: “We had about 150 people visit, including a lot of children which was nice to see.

“The event is for the village and to get people interested in becoming members of the gardening club.

“As part of the admission fee you get tea and cake, so it’s a social thing as well as selling.

“We got a couple of new members on the day and hopefully some more will join as a result of the potato fair.”
