Percy causes a flap on mini adventure around Calne

A cheeky parrot named Percy, who escaped from his home in North Street, Calne, is back where he belongs – thanks to quick-thinking local resident Phil Sutterby.

Percy hopped through an open window on Monday, February 18 at 4pm, while mother of two Angie Green was doing the school run.

He was found the next morning in the doorway of Goldman’s Interiors, on Wood Street, by Mr Sutterby after evading the efforts of a seven-hour search party.

Ms Green, who works for Wiltshire Council, said Percy came to live with the family a year and a half ago and is adored by her children Taylor, ten, and four-year-old Charlotte.

She said: “Percy is very dear to us – he came from a relative who was evicted at the time. He had no feathers and was in quite a sorry state.

“Since he’s been with us he’s been pretty free and I inadvertently left the window open. My sister suggested I put an appeal on Facebook. I was absolutely overwhelmed with the amount of support.”

Ms Green was joined by friends and neighbours in her hunt, including Devizes-based Simon Stockley from Birdline Parrot Rescue.

She found out where Percy was hiding after Mr Sutterby phoned the police in the early hours of the morning.

She said of Percy: “He was sulking for a couple of days but he’s back to his usual self now. He was quite traumatised by his adventure.”
