Marlborough drug dealer facing jail term

A Marlborough addict who resorting to dealing hard drugs to support his own habit has been warned to prepare himself for prison.

Marc Sanchez, of Wexcombe,  pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine with intent to supply when he appeared before a judge at Swindon Crown Court.

And Sanchez, 23, also admitted having cannabis and diazepam, which he insisted were for his own use, when the police raided his house on June 11 last year.

He had just short of ten grams of cocaine with an unusually high purity of 88 per cent, the court was told.

Tessa Hingston, prosecuting, said when his mobile phone was examined, it was found he had been dealing to at least four or five different people.

Alex Daymond, defending, said Sanchez accepted he was 'street dealing', but only to people he knew were already users.

"He was a user himself and as is often the way of a user with a habit they get to know other users," he said.

"When he decided to start selling the drug he already knew other users. He was not looking for new customers, he was not out in the street trying to find people to sell to.

"Mr Sanchez is under no illusions about the likely outcome of the case. He is in employment and living with his parents."

Judge Euan Ambrose adjourned the case to Friday, March 1, and released Sanchez on conditional bail.

He said: "Don't read anything into the fact that I am granting you bail and ordering a report.

"As Mr Daymond has already indicated you should come on the next occasion anticipating a prison sentence.

"The court will of course consider everything on the next occasion but that is what you should come prepared for."
