Police warning after Marlborough burglary increase

. .

Police are urging homeowners to be extra vigilant after an increase in domestic burglaries in the Marlborough area.

Over the last six months thieves have targeted a number of properties particularly in Manton.

To tackle the problem extra patrols are being carried out in Manton and the police are reminding residents to always close and lock doors and windows when leaving the house or going to bed.

Sergeant Vincent Logue said: “Jewellery seems to be the main attraction for the thieves.
“If you see anything suspicious contact the police immediately, even if it turns out to be a false alarm we’d rather go out to it and it turn out to be nothing.”

Sgt Logue suggests that residents only keep low value costume jewellery in their jewellery box and any valuable or sentimental items should be kept hidden.

He added: “Make your property identifiable by using a property marking system such as Smartwater or Selecta DNA.

“These can be used on even small items like jewellery and remember to display the stickers front and back of your property as these work as a deterrent to thieves.”

All items can be registered with a serial number at www.immobilise.com so police can establish ownership if they are stolen and recovered.

If you see anything suspicious contact Wiltshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information may be left anonymously.
