Chippenham fundraiser's triathlon celebrates mum's life

Dedicated Chris Maxwell raised more than £2,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign with a triathalon celebrating his mum’s life.

In just one weekend Mr Maxwell, of Kington St Michael, swam 4km at the Olympiad, cycled 400km and ran 40km in loops around Chippenham.

The father-of-three, a member of Chippenham Wheelers and a Chippenham Harrier, turned 40 the day before his challenge earlier this month.

His mother Lorna Maxwell, who died in October aged 64 after developing an infection, had limb girdle muscular dystrophy.

He said she inspired him to take on the challenge because she had never let the muscle disease get in her way of enjoying life.

His wife Michelle said: “It was a great weekend. Chris had loads of support from Chippenham Harriers at feed stations and on the swim, bike and run and he finished it well within the time.”

He had initially hoped to raise £400 but was blown away by 67 donations totalling £2015. Donations can still be made at www.justgiving.com/Chris-Maxwell1
